MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN

Dear Brethren,

The Day of Atonement in 2012 is Wednesday, September 26^th.  It is a twenty-four hour day of fasting from food and drink beginning at sunset on Tuesday evening.  “On the tenth day of this seventh month there shall be a Day of Atonement: it shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall afflict your souls.”  (Leviticus 23:27)

MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN

Brethren, we have come to the days between the Feast of Trumpets and the Day of Atonement – and the handwriting is on the wall.  God declares the end from the beginning so that we might know His mind in regard to our state of affairs (Isaiah 46:10).  Our leaders and our country are in their last days.  We were once a blessed, prosperous and powerful nation when America rejoiced in our God, families and nation.

But now our President, who knows not the history, heart and soul of this once great people, has turned to the full rejection of the way of God.  Do not get me wrong, President Barack Obama knows of the might and wealth of America – it is just that he gives no credit to God for our prominence among the populations of the earth.

It is not so much a matter of President Obama’s egregious lying or gross unconstitutional conduct; it is a matter of flagrantly going directly against God’s express will for His people.  Israel went into captivity for Sabbath breaking, and idolatry.  There are sins that are markers indicating our demise.  President Obama has acted to make ungodly conduct the law of the land.

President Obama promotes and pays for the slaughter of our unborn innocents through abortions – and thinks of it as an inconsequential thing.  How can our President advocate and promote this murderous act when God declares that such a horrible travesty as killing infants is so heinous that it never entered His mind?

“They built the high places of Baal in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire unto Molech; which I commanded them not, neither came it into My mind, that they should do this abomination.”  (Jeremiah 32:35)

President Obama has also snubbed his nose at the Creator by redefining the godly institution of marriage – to be a perverse thing in God’s sight.  God said that a man shall cleave unto his wife [not another man]: and they shall be one flesh (Genesis 2:24).  If God had made another man out of Adam’s rib, those two would have been the totality of the human race!  In legalizing homosexual marriage, President Obama has declared legal that which God says is vile.

“For this cause God gave them up unto depraved passions [lesbianism]: for even their women did change the natural use of sex into that which is contrary to nature.

“Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lustful passions one toward another [homosexuality]; men with men working that which is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their wayward indulgence which was appropriate [HIV, AIDS, incurable virus, etc.].”  (Romans 1:26-27)

It is because of these and other blatant sinful acts that God is pulling the plug on America.  We have come to the “tipping point” from which there is no turning back – “the handwriting is on the wall.”

President Obama is like the Biblical Belshazzar who knew of the glory days of his father Nebuchadnezzar.  Our founding fathers humbled themselves when they laid the foundation of this great nation of America upon the Word of God – knowing that it was Almighty God alone who has blessed us according to His promises to Abraham.  God blessed all the Israelitish nations of the world.  In turn, those blessings flowed to the gentile nations through us.  Our founding fathers understood that it was the Most High God who is sovereign over all kingdoms on earth and sets over them anyone he wishes.

Notice how ancient prophesies mirror the present.  In brazen haughtiness and arrogance Belshazzar gloated before all the prominent men of his day.  In the same way that Belshazzar basked in the glory of his father’s accomplishments (Daniel 5:1), President Obama rides a wave of affluence and opulence made possible by the past freedom and opportunity of those whose free enterprise labors built our imposing economy.

Today, the True God is being systematically removed from every vestige of government , education, justice and private life in America.  Following in the footsteps of Belshazzar, foreign gods [like the gods of the Muslim Brotherhood] are being given the preference of the White House.  “As they drank the wine, they praised the gods of gold and silver, of bronze, iron, wood and stone.”  (Daniel 5:4)

As a result of our rejection of God and the sins of our leaders, America is about to enter the time of Jacob’s trouble (Jeremiah 30:7).  We are all going to suffer terribly for turning from God.  We need to understand that

God gives us the leaders we deserve – and we deserve the basest of men.  “…the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomsoever He will, and sets up over it the basest of men.”  (Daniel 4:17)  God is doing that.

No one could decipher the meaning of the handwriting on the wall except for the prophet Daniel.  “And this is the writing that was written, MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN.  This is the interpretation of the thing: MENE; God hath numbered thy kingdom, and finished it [bringing it to an end].  TEKEL; Thou art weighed in the balances, and are found wanting [lacking, the kingdom was not living up to God’s expectations – so Daniel is prophesying the fate of the king and his empire]. PERES; Thy kingdom is divided…”  (Daniel 5:25 -28)

In the same way that Babylon was lacking, God has found America lacking and wanting.  The only question remaining is how fast will we be taken down?  In this week’s sermon we will explore the striking similarities between then and now.  Between Babylon and America.  Between Belshazzar and President Obama.  The end is near.  The handwriting is on the wall.
