Alpha and Omega

Dear Brethren,

Do you understand the true nature of Jesus Christ?  Could you defend the truth of the eternal nature of Jesus against those who teach that He is a created being?  Jesus is Eternal – He has been and will always be the same for all eternity (Isaiah 57:15).

Arianism is an heretical school of thought that teaches that Jesus has not always existed.  Arius lived about AD 250-336.  He taught that the Son of God, the Logos, was a created being.  There are forms of Arianism that are extant today.

We need to be able to defend the truth against all heresy, but especially against those that are a clear and present danger.  The misunderstood Scripture upon which this false doctrine relies is Revelation 3:14   “Unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God.”

This is a poor translation that allows some to think that Jesus Christ, the Messiah and Logos, was the first being created by God.  The correct translation of this verse is: “The beginner of the creation of God.”  It was Jesus who began all the creation – as we shall see.  The King James translators did not have a good grasp of the true doctrines of Christ.

Please notice that it was Jesus who created absolutely all things.  “By Him [Jesus Christ] were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by Him, and for Him:  And He is before all things, and by Him all things consist.”  (Colossians 1:16-17  )

It was God the Father who created all things by and through Jesus Christ.  “…I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ; And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ.”  (Ephesians 3:8-9)

Indeed, Jesus is the Alpha and the Omega, meaning He existed in the very beginning with the Father – before time itself – and He will always exist.  “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.  I John, [the beloved apostle] who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ… and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet, saying, I am Alpha and Omega , the first and the last.”  (Revelation 1:8-11)

John, also, had to deal with similar heresies in his day.  John made it perfectly clear that Jesus existed in the beginning with the Father, as the Word, or Logos.  And, John, by the inspiration of God’s Holy Spirit, declared that Jesus Christ, the soon coming Messiah, is the one who created all things in the heavens and earth.  “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God.  The same [Jesus Christ] was in the beginning with God.  All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made.”  (John 1:1-3)
