The Book of Proverbs
|
Solomon, the son of King David, was inspired by God to write the Proverbs
because he was the wisest man who ever lived (2Ch 1:12).
The purpose of the Book of Proverbs is for everyone to receive the instruction
of wisdom with understanding, judgment, and equity. Solomon, in his day, trained
his children to be the princes and princesses of his kingdom. Today, the wisdom
of Proverbs helps to guide us to be kings and priests in the Kingdom of God (Rev
5:10).
Those who hear these wise teachings of Proverbs will increase in their learning.
We all come into this world knowing nothing at all. First, we begin to
accumulate facts and learn to interpret that knowledge with ever increasing
discernment. Then, if we choose the right source for our instruction, we are
able to become skilled at applying that correct understanding with the use of
wisdom. With the instruction of Proverbs and God’s Holy Spirit, it is possible
to build the exceptional character that accompanies Godly Wisdom.
The Wisdom of God is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be
entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, with impartiality and sincerity (James
3:17). Having the highest respect for God and His Way is the beginning of wisdom
(Proverbs 1:7).
